Coffee! From flavor crystals to  the science experiment-esque Chemex method, there are plenty of ways in which to brew, sip, and enjoy one of our favorite beverages. One of my favorite coffee roasters, Counter Culture,  is based right here in the south in North Carolina.

One of their regional training centers is based right here in the South at Atlanta’s King Plow Center. A number of local independent coffee houses, including Octane, Tilt, and ParkGrounds use their beans, and recently Saveur Magazine featured them in their list of top brews.

Their training center opens up to the public each Friday for free coffee “cuppings”, akin to wine tasting, and offers area baristas and coffee enthusiasts to taste, and learn about the bean. David and Byron have a wealth of knowledge and are eager to share.

Many local coffeehouses including Octane on the Westside and Method Coffee Bar (Intelligentsia is their roaster of choice) in Emory Village hold occasional cuppings. The folks over at ParkGrounds are holding a cupping this Sunday morning at 11am if you want to try it yourself!
