Varasano’s Pizzeria opens its doors

varasanos

It’s finally here! Jeffrey Varasano’s long-awaited pizzeria has opened on Peachtree Road in Buckhead. I attended one of Jeffrey’s much talked about pizza parties a few months ago in advance of the opening, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Much of the talk among past attendees was whether the restaurant itself would manage to keep up the high quality once the restaurant itself had opened, and Jeffrey was no longer manning the oven. I’m not a food critic and don’t claim knowledge of all that’s holy in the pizza world, but I will say that the transition was successful and I really enjoyed the pizza. The party’s now open for everyone, so have at it.

June 2, 2009 - 5:37 am Gil and Marie Perry - My wife and I lived in Naples, Italy for 3 years = 1969-71 while stationed at the Nato Base in Bagnoli, Italy, a suburb of Naples. We lived in a very nice apartment close to the famous Naples soccer stadium and ate many pizzas from the local pizzerias. Yours look right on the button and I can almost taste the wonderful goodness of those pizzas straight from the brick oven, doused with olive oil, and folded into a newspaper. Good luck. Hope to stop by on my way up north . Gil

April 21, 2009 - 12:49 pm Bearings - A Southern Lifestyle Brief - [...] After a refining process that involved years of making pizza for strangers in his home and a highly-trafficked Web site where he posted his recipe, Jeff Varasano is now giving Atlanta the chance test his claim to the best pie anywhere. - Varasano’s Pizzeria, located in the bottom of the new Mezzo building in Buckhead, is the ultimate expression of Jeff’s obsession with making the perfect pie. The New York native says the inability to find any decent pizza in Atlanta was the catalyst for creating his unique technique and signature recipes - and now a restaurant.  Everyone has their favorite place in the city for a slice, but Varasano’s is a must-visit pizzeria that stands out from the crowd. - 2171 Peachtree Rd., MAP. 404.352.8216.
