Prepping Espresso @ the WBC Bar
Baristas from 50+ countries have been competing in Atlanta this week for the World Barista Championships and the finals are set for Sunday at the Georgia World Congress Center. I checked out the final day of round one today as well as the accompanying SCAA trade show next door. Nicaragua is the featured country this year and a variety of coffees from different roasters were on tap at the WBC Coffee Bar.

The competition itself is pretty intense with a panel of judges scrutinizing every move, and teams furiously cleaning the espresso machines between competitors. Music chosen by the competitors served as the backdrop for each 15 minute set.

Congratulations to the six competitors who will compete on Sunday for the championship — Hungary, United Kingdom, Canada, United States and Korea. The competition begins at noon and is free of charge.
