It’s here! Christmas is here and I’ve been slaving away for the past three days over a hot stove. *insert laughter here* OK that’s a bit of a lie, in case you count the minutes this morning I spent frying up some bacon de benton on the stove top. I don’t have any last-minute recipes to share with you, but I thought I’d throw up some photos from a fine Thursday last month, when I spent Thanksgiving in Sonoma.
My week out there was loosely planned and wasn’t really sure what the big plans were for turkey day, except that there was a vineyard involved, and most likely wine. LOTS and LOTS of wine. Some cheese and turkey too.
After a couple of missed turns, a couple of wine-themed roads, (Zinfandel, Chablis, Burgundy among them) a gravel road led us to this wonderful place.
I know, crazy right? Absolutely breathtaking. The turkey could’ve been absolutely dry and I think the day would’ve been a success.
Champagne glass? Oh, don’t mind if I do.
Oh, and yes there was food, lots of food including the obligatory bird.
My favorite though, this pork belly pavé — layers of porky goodness waiting to be seared in the pan.
After a few glasses of bubbly and my new friend Jenna eyeing my plate, I decided to put down the camera and chow down.
Although the food and wine were spectacular, even moreso was the company & camaraderie among folks. After all, that’s one of the reasons we love the holidays, right? Getting together with friends and loved ones that you may not see as often as you’d like. It’s been pretty amazing starting this blog this year, and I look forward to sharing more with you in 2010 ( Even if some of the photos were taken in ’09 – oy!)
