Article 14, a handsome restaurant and bar at the bottom of the King and Spalding building opened a year ago and I’d been given a chance to check it out then. Y’all know that I like to keep it positive around here, and sadly there really wasn’t much that I’d be able to recommend. Drinks were mixed poorly and I should’ve known better than to order something with pimento cheese grits. Lesson learned. When my friend and barkeep Arianne Fielder moved over to the restaurant she urged me to try it out again.
I’m happy to report that the situation is much approved, and with Arianne behind the bar, you know that you’ll get a great cocktail and plenty of choice whiskeys on the bar menu. They’ve got a number of bar snacks, including the okra chips with smoked tomato aioli (incredibly crunchy as they’re dehydrated) and the duck confit sliders with grilled figs and arugula are fun.
My main order of business that day was to shoot some cocktails for Sartorial Exposure, the first of those cocktails, the Asheville Smash, is live on the site right now.
Oh, and the seared scallops with curry vinaigrette are mighty fine as well.
